The Craps Lecture

Look there are a lot of strategies for all types of casino games but in the long run you will ever be able to make money when playing against the house. It is important to remember that games played against the house are for entertainment. There is no such thing as a professional gambler. If you want to try to make money in a casino, hope they have a poker room. Even in the poker room you will need patience and an unbelievable amount of skill. With that break back to craps.  Gambling can be fun but remember there is more risk than reward. That is what separates gambling from investing; the reward risk ratio.

Craps is a great place to gamble because you can get close to a break even bet. Well that is as long as you are able to resist the temptation of the stick man. The casino has the stick man working for your money because that is the area of the table where you make bets with the highest amount of negative expectation.  What makes craps fun is the table action. It is fast paced, people are cheering and the game has a lot of dramatic turns. The craps table has great entertainment value, you can play for a long time and not lose too much as long as you stick to a simple game plan.  That plan is to play the pass or don't pass while laying odds.  The more odds you lay the closer you get to a coin flip.  It is best to lay the maximum odds on your bet.  Table limits start at $5 at most casino.  Laying odds can be a bit confusing so I will go over that in a later post.

Between the pass and don't pass, the don't pass is the better play statistically.  The problem with playing the don't pass is that you are betting against the roller.  A lot of people will shun you for that but if you're an instigator go ahead and have some extra fun being the table nemesis.

At the end of the day stay away from the craps table as a means to make money. Over time you'll come out behind. The one exception I would make is when you are in need of $500 dollars in a hurry but you only have sixty.  My thoughts are if you are not going to be able to pay a bill go down swinging.  That being said do things like donating blood, sperm, eggs, bone marrow first.
